It is common for musicians to complain about the little money they receive from streaming music services such as Spotify, Rdio, Deezer or YouTube. For their part, companies usually counter-argue by declaring the large sums of money they give to record companies for copyrights.
The latest company to defend itself with this argument is YouTube, as the company’s vice president of content at Google, Tom Pickett, revealed at Midem – an annual event dedicated to the music industry that takes place in Cannes – that YouTube has paid him more $ 1 billion to the music industry in “all these last few years.”
