The instant messaging application WhatsApp has become a virtual mobile operator (MVNO) that will provide service in Germany with the operator e-Plus.
An MVNO does not have a physical telephone network and therefore works with others. In Spain this happens with Tuenti Móvil, which uses the Movistar network to provide services.
Now with this WhatsApp strategy, the plans pointed out by Jan Koum, CEO of the company, are revealed during the Mobile World Congress in which he spoke of working in a different way with the operators. This is the first time that WhatsApp has teamed up with an operator.
