A six-year-old child has an average vocabulary of 13,000 words. From learning to say the first words until the age of seventeen, a person has a new word learning rate of about one word every ninety minutes: from the age of one to the age of seventeen.
This represents that a seventeen-year-old native English speaker has around 50,000 words stored in his brain, which is the standard value for an older person.
