The National Electricity System (SEN) is prepared to counteract the effects of the climatic phenomena of drought that could affect the supply of electricity in the country, says the Minister of Electric Energy, Jesse Chacón, who recalled that the scientific community has announced that there is a 70% probability that the climate phenomenon known as “El Niño” will develop, the effects of which could be felt in Venezuela during the months between October 2014 and April 2015, and which brings with it intense droughts.
He indicated that currently the national energy demand is located at 18,600 megawatts (MW), so measures are proposed to promote more rational consumption in the residential, industrial and public sectors.
In this way, 20 million incadescent lighting fixtures will be replaced by compact fluorescent lamps, which will allow a reduction of 430 mw, as well as the incorporation of 60 thousand air conditioners with efficient technology.
For the private sector, it is planned to apply a massive supervision plan that will study the consumption of large users, as well as a process of energy audits and the promotion of the self-generation process at night.
