Economic distortions make Venezuelan consumer behavior appear irrational. Despite an annualized inflation of 59.4%, according to official data, and the fall in purchasing power registered in the first quarter of this year, the shortage motivates consumers to continue buying what they get and if necessary they go into debt to be able to do so.
“This is, of all the moments in which we have explored, the most difficult to interpret. The market is full of distortions that prevent us from seeing a conventional rationality in consumer behavior ”, said Luis Vicente León, director of Datanálisis.
