The list for this region is headed by Brazil, which has 17.4 million monthly active users, reports ‘La República’. Colombia follows with 17 million, out of a total of 23 million Internet users.
Mexico and Venezuela rank third and fourth with 15 million and 6.4 million respectively. At the same time, according to the president of the Colombian Chamber of Informatics and Telecommunications (Ccit), Alberto Samuel Yohai, Colombia is the leading country in the use of Twitter in the region, since “the number of tweets per capita is greater than that of the other countries of Latin America ”.
According to experts, the key factor in the growing popularity of Twitter in Latin America is the possibility that this social network offers not only to be informed but also to express opinions immediately, circumventing censorship.
