The Cell Therapy Unit of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (Ivic) is the only one of its kind in Latin America that has advanced to the clinical phase of experimentation with stem cells, carrying out 15 free treatments to regenerate bones with fractures with the support of the University Hospital of Caracas.
The first stem cell implant made in Venezuela was carried out in 2010 in an 83-year-old patient with a double fracture in his tibia and fibula. For this, stem cells from the patient himself were used. The treatment resulted in a complete cure by regenerating the affected bone.
