Matthew Hewlett and Caleb Turon are two 14-year-olds from Winnipeg, Canada, both of whom have just earned the honorary title of hackers after breaching the security of a Bank of Montreal ATM.
For this they have not resorted to complicated encryption maneuvers or programs written in unknown languages. They have only read the ATM manual published by their manufacturers on the Internet.
After studying the user manual well, Hewlett and Turon have not taken long to put the cashier software in administrator mode. To do this, they simply entered one of the device’s default passwords that were listed in the manual.
