According to a post by TOR itself, this deanonymization attack occurred in January of this year in which several output relays had been infiltrated by a group of researchers from Carnegie-Mellon University. Specifically, there would be a combination of attacks: one of traffic confirmation and another Sybil. The latter would require a high level of knowledge to be carried out. TOR staff, upon learning of this attack on July 4, immediately closed the exits so that no one would see their privacy affected.
As pointed out in the blog post of the initiative, users who have used this relay have seen their security compromised and recommend running a software update.
via TOR admits a security breach since January 2014.
