The security of the South Korean banking system was compromised. A computer services contractor stole data from the Korea Credit Bureau, an agency responsible for managing residents’ credit reputations, obtaining data from 20 million users.
Among the information this employee obtained were the names, identification numbers and credit card numbers of nearly 40 percent of the South Korean population. The information was sold to a marketing firm.
