A fall can pose a risk for anyone, but even greater for the elderly. Especially for those who live alone. That is why an international team of investigators is developing a technology that detects these events, locates the victim geographically and alerts the emergency services.
The FATE device (‘FAll detector for The Elder’ – ‘fall detector for the elderly’) is “a small device, with a highly sensitive sensor to detect falls, which is incorporated inside a belt and that the patient wears post throughout the day, “they say from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in a statement. “This detector identifies the user’s falls and locates him wherever he is and at all times.”
To cover all moments of the day, FATE also incorporates a technology that includes a bed sensor capable of identifying prolonged absences. If the user has gotten up and has not returned in a reasonable time, the system gives the alarm in case there has been an emergency.
