A group of researchers from the University of Tokyo created a sensitive organic sensor, which they decided to install inside a diaper, to wirelessly alert if the wearer requires a change.
The circuit is printed on a plastic film and transmits information wirelessly. Although it may sound useless to some – most parents realize if their baby needs a diaper changed without the need for apps – in Japan they plan to use it in adult diapers, considering the growing population of older adults in that country.
Thus, it would be enough for the nurse to approach the person with a receiving device to read the state of the diaper, without having to undress it.
