After introducing us last year laser technology such as defensive cannons against drones and small unmanned aircraft for their warships, the technology will now be applied to their ground vehicles with the aim of countering the increasingly common drones to reconnaissance and spying of troops.
These laser cannons are being developed within the GBAD project, already in the tender phase, and could be easily incorporated into light vehicles, which is their great advantage.
This system would replace the current ones based on firearms, more expensive, with limited autonomy to new supplies and not at all discrete.
For now they are testing with models whose power is 10 kW, but by 2016 they could already reach 30 kW including improved drone detection and tracking systems.
via the USA bet on laser cannons to neutralize enemy spy drones.
