nintendo-game-boyThis past April, the Nintendo Game Boy, the device that marked an entire generation and that managed to turn the video game into something truly portable, turned 25 years old. It was not the first, nor the most advanced, but it was the one that managed to triumph in the face of tough competition.

Developed by Gunpei Yokoi and Satoru Okada, the console managed to prevail over the fierce competition of a time when Sega’s Game Gear, Atari Lynz and Nec’s TurboExpress dominated the market with superior technology … but also much more expensive.

With the Game Boy, Nintendo succeeded in designing a competitive, affordable, low-energy device that “only” required 4 AA batteries compared to the competition’s six, and above all, it made a fun and portable device.
