The Spanish financial institution “la Caixa” and Technosite, a company specializing in accessible technologies, presented the European project APSIS4all, a solution that provides people with access to electronic devices for public use such as ATMs.
The project seeks to help overcome the accessibility barriers faced by the elderly, people with disabilities and users who are not familiar with technologies when they interact with devices for public use.
In Spain, the APSIS4all project allows users to personalize the way they use a network of about 1,300 «la Caixa» ATMs, by offering forms of interaction adapted to different profiles. Among the main innovations, the incorporation of the equipment operation guide in sign language or through voice-guided instructions, using headphones, instead of graphic information, stands out.
Likewise, the ATMs have high-contrast screens, large texts and buttons, or keyboard navigation; options that improve the experience with the terminal, and that can be especially useful for people with disabilities.
