Sony officially announced that it will lay off a total of 5,000 workers as a result of its plans to restructure the company, including the sale of the VAIO computer business and the separation of the television line. With these movements, the Japanese expects to amortize the losses estimated at about 11 billion dollars by the end of March 2014. The company assures that this restructuring also seeks to concentrate its efforts on the mobile business on smartphones and tablets. Of the employees that Sony will put out of work around the world, 1,500 work in Japan and the remaining 3,500 reside abroad. Likewise, the Japanese company has foreseen that it will cut a third of its expenses during the next 15 months.
