Gear S is a device based on the Tizen operating system, which Samsung will enhance while betting on Google’s Android Wear platform.
The watch incorporates Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G connectivity, which implies that it has its own SIM card and that it is capable of working independently of the company’s smartphones, being able to make calls. In addition, it is the second wrist wearable that the Asian company launches with a curved screen, after Gear Fit. Its OLED panel has 2 inches (larger than that of its predecessors) and a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels.
The Gear S includes a 1 Ghz dual core processor, 512 Mb of RAM, 4 GB of storage and a 300 mAh battery that is capable of powering the watch for two days. Added to this is the IP67 specification, making it waterproof and submersible under 1 meter for 30 minutes.
