If we want to rest well and have a good night’s sleep, it is best to forget about reading on electronic devices just before going to sleep. This is the conclusion of a study done at Harvard Medical School (USA) and published this week in the journal PNAS.
Researchers have compared the effect on sleep of tablets and e-books compared to the printed book. They have found that people who read on an iPad in the late afternoon feel more awake at the end of the day than those who read a book, have a harder time falling asleep after turning off the light, have poorer quality sleep and find themselves more sleepy the next morning.
The blame for all these effects is the short-wave light emitted by electronic devices.
