No one had succeeded until an attacker, with the help of GoDaddy and Paypal, started the blackmail.
As Naoki explains, it all started when one day he received an email from GoDaddy telling him that his account details had been changed. In it he not only had several sites hosted but also his own email domain, which worked through Google Apps, was also registered there. And he had just lost access.
