Barack Obama called for expanding the high-tech production base in the United States. During his State of the Union address, he proposed the creation of six new high-tech manufacturing centers in the country this year.
“We have an opportunity right now to beat other countries in the race for the next wave of jobs in high-tech manufacturing,” Obama said in his annual address to the nation. He gave as an example the two existing centers in Raleigh North Carolina, and Youngstown Ohio, which have “connected companies with researchers at universities that can help America lead the world in advanced technologies.”
Obama did not elaborate on the proposed new centers, or where they would be located or what technology they will specialize in.
