Google wants to strengthen the security of its online services and, for this, it has just launched the possibility of using two-step verification through authentication with a physical USB memory instead of receiving a code on the mobile. Why is this system more secure?
According to Google, for two main reasons. The first is that by using a physical USB memory we avoid phishing problems on the mobile. Our smartphone may have malware installed that makes it easier for an attacker to access our passwords. Doing this with a special USB stick like the one needed to authenticate is not that easy. The second reason is that a USB memory always works, it does not need to be charged or have a cellular connection like a mobile phone.
To use it you need a special USB memory, not just any you have at home.
via Now you can access your Google accounts with a USB stick.
