New nanomaterials for the manufacture of the next …

nanomaterialsA team of physicists has created a new type of nanomaterial that dramatically changes its magnetic state when slightly heated or cooled. This effect, which has never been seen in any material, could lead to the creation of new types of computing memory: the hard drives of the future.

This new nanomaterial is composed of nickel and vanadium oxide, and after several drastic changes in temperature, reaching -153 degrees Celsius, they found that with each change the coercivity of the material changed dramatically (and not gradually). The magnetic coercivity rise rate for this material was the highest ever seen in any component to date, within a similar temperature range.
