Mozilla announced the launch for India of an “ultra-low-cost” smartphone, which will cost around $ 25, “an initiative that can be replicated in Latin America,” according to the company.
The device with the Firefox OS operating system, based on open technologies, will go on sale in the Asian country in the coming months, in a joint move between Mozilla and the chipmaker Spreadtrum to enter a product accessible to a mass market, as reported by the organization.
“Mozilla works in conjunction with 22 operators in the world and with manufacturers of both devices and chipsets, but it is not who decides the launch times or countries,” he said, and recalled that phones with Firefox OS are marketed in 7 countries Latin Americans: Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil.
