As part of the sustained investment growth plan in the country, Movistar will close 2014 with an investment of Bs. 1,772 million in the western region, aimed at improving and expanding coverage, interurban fiber optic laying and infrastructure, to increase network capabilities, serving users in the area.
For the region, the company has so far placed 47 new stations that will expand coverage in the areas of the Eastern Coast of the Lake, Coro, El Vigía, Guasdualito, Maracaibo Centro, Maracaibo Norte, Maracaibo Sur, Mérida, Perijá, Punto Fijo , San Cristóbal and Valera. Additionally, more than 130 improvement actions have been carried out in order to strengthen capacities in sectors that already have coverage.
The work that has been carried out in these areas translates into an installed capacity to date of more than 2000 Mbps that can pass through the region, more than a million voice minutes per hour and around 46 million SMS.
The announcements about network advances in the western part of the country were made during the visit of the President of Movistar Pedro Cortez to Ciudad Ojeda and Punto Fijo. Regarding the company’s actions, Cortez pointed out: “Our commitment to the region is growing, not only by investing in the expansion of our communications network, but also in social projects and new technologies that are at the service of our users, because our commitment to Venezuela is long-term. ”Additionally, during the inauguration of a new Mi Movistar Zone in the Punto Fijo Service Center, Pedro Cortez added:“ We are placing at the service of our clients a powerful self-management tool that provides them with greater comfort with state-of-the-art technology in self-management, where our clients will be able to carry out their transactions quickly and easily in the Mi Movistar Zones ”.
After inaugurating the Mi Movistar Zone in the Punto Fijo CDS, a message of affection was sent to the earth with the activation of a new Green Corner, where the community can contribute to the environment, depositing their cell phones, batteries and accessories disused for later recycling. With the Green Corners program, Telefónica | Movistar has collected more than 12 tons of equipment at the moment, preventing these from generating pollution in the environment.
Among Pedro Cortez’s activities in the region, the visit of one of the 20 schools of Fundación Telefónica’s Proniño program in Falcón state was also on the agenda. At the Astillero Carirubana Technical School, adolescents are served who receive comprehensive care: Schooling (uniforms, school supplies and transportation), health and care workshops, educational material for school, income generation program for family members, sports activities, recreational activities, job training and training workshops.
With Proniño, Fundación Telefónica promotes the permanence in school of girls, boys and adolescents, providing them with the necessary support to successfully complete their education.
With the network investment plan, the implementation of technological innovation projects and the development of social and environmental impact initiatives, the telecommunications company seeks to offer the best communications experience to its users, while contributing to the generation of values in the communities.
