A new browser deserves a new logo, and Microsoft has revealed a radically updated piece of art to go with the Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge. It’s still an ‘E’, more or less, but the updated icon is a far cry from the Internet Explorer logo that the original Microsoft Edge was using. The message is clear: Microsoft is breaking with the past with this new version.
The new browser is still in beta. Microsoft has said that it is nearing completion and that it should replace the existing version of Edge in the near future. The new and improved Edge has been built from the ground up. It uses the same Chromium base as Google Chrome, to be more attractive to both end users and web developers.
The new logo was not unveiled in a conventional way. It was hidden behind a series of puzzles and clues posted on the web by Microsoft employees. At the end of the digital tour was an online navigation game that, when completed, revealed the sleek-looking icon. Makes a change from the regular blog post or press release. It seems to hint that the new Edge is almost ready for a full launch.
