The company SpaceX, the firm of billionaire Elon Musk, has presented its new capsule capable of transporting up to 7 astronauts into space. It is a spectacular spacecraft that can reach the International Space Station (ISS) and return by landing anywhere on Earth with thrusters and retractable legs, with the precision of a helicopter. An engineering marvel.
Elon Musk unveiled the new Dragon V2 spacecraft just as tensions between Russia and the US over the Ukraine conflict are at their most delicate point. The problem is serious: Given that the Soyuz capsules that now carry astronauts to the ISS are Russian, like the rockets that propel them into orbit, those stresses do not bode well for the future of space exploration.
