Coordinated by Interpol, the operation has dismantled the Simda botnet, ending a family of malware that has infected more than 770,000 computers worldwide.
Operation SIMDA is an initiative to eliminate a massive global botnet that has infected more than 770,000 computers worldwide. Cybercriminals have used SIMDA to gain remote access to PCs that allow the theft of personal information, including bank passwords, as well as install and spread other malware. Disabling botnets requires skill, precision, and coordination to ensure that the threat does not spread. In addition to Trend Micro and INTERPOL, participants contributing to the dislocation include Microsoft and Kaspersky Labs.
