The number of Chinese Internet users who connect to the network through a mobile device – such as an advanced phone or tablet – has for the first time exceeded those who do so with a personal computer (PC), the official Center for China Internet Information (CNNIC).
The total number of Internet users in China grew 2.3 percent to 632 million at the end of June, from 618 million recorded at the end of 2013, CNNIC’s Internet Development Statistical Report said.
Of those, 527 million – or 83 percent – connected to the Internet via mobile. Those who did it with a personal PC were 81 percent of the total.
China is the world’s largest smartphone market, and in 2018 it is expected to have nearly a third of the 1.8 billion smartphones it anticipates will be sold that year, according to data firm IDC.
