CPU_IBM_PowerPCThe US military scientific research agency DARPA commissioned IBM to create a microprocessor that turns into silicon powder upon receiving a specific command over radio waves. The goal of the project, called VAPR, for programmable resources with the ability to fade, is to develop technologies that prevent reserved military systems from falling into the possession of hostile hands.

The project has been awarded to IBM and involves a contract of almost 4 million dollars. The company will use in the chip a crystallized substrate that breaks “when a fuse or reactive metallic layer” that contains it receives an external signal of radio frequencies.
