One of the unique features of the iPhone 5s is the ability to record slow motion video at 120 fps. Thanks to some of the new APIs in iOS 7, we can also record slow motion video on the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPad mini, although only at 60 frames per second. The results are not as spectacular as those of the iPhone 5s, but it is still a curious effect.
SlowCam is probably the more intuitive of the two. Its use is as simple as pressing the record video button, and when we want to activate the slow motion video recording on the iPhone 5, press and hold the blue button with the drawing of a snail. The advantage of this method is that we will control in real time when the slow motion video recording is activated and when it is deactivated on the iPhone 5; but we will not be able to edit it later from the application.
SlowCam will also allow us to make a digital zoom in the videos, up to 5x and activate the flash while we are recording. Regarding the results, in our tests the video quality and the effect obtained with SlowCam is superior to SloPro.
The second alternative is SloPro. The recording mode is also simple, we simply have to press the record button to start and end; but in this case, it will be later when we adjust the duration of the slow motion video on the iPhone 5. We can also modify the total duration of the video, speed it up or even adjust it to 500-1000fps. In addition, SloPro also has a Feed in which we can see videos recorded by other users.
The advantage of SloPro over SlowCam is that we can edit the video after its recording, and it also offers us more functions. Another aspect to take into account is that its download is free, so we will not lose anything in trying it and if we are convinced to purchase the Pro version that will allow us to remove the watermark, export the videos to the photo reel and send them by email .
