The Mountain View company is planning to invest 1,000 million dollars in the deployment of 180 low-Earth orbit satellites to provide Internet access to marginalized regions of the planet. This is revealed by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
Google’s initiative would be spearheaded by Greg Wyler, founder of the satellite communications startup O3b Networks. The big G company also reportedly recruited some engineers from the satellite company Space Systems / Loral. In total, it is estimated that Google could spend 3 billion dollars.
