Google presented this year the prototype of its autonomous cars. Its small format, and its lack of steering wheels and pedals attracted attention. But Google’s plans have collided with legislation. According to The Wall Street Journal, new rules of the California Department of Motor Vehicles come into effect on September 16.
Among the new regulations, it stands out that the driver is required to have the possibility of taking “immediate physical control” of the vehicle on the road if necessary. According to Bernard Soriano, the officer in charge of the rules, it is necessary for the car to have a steering wheel, and brake and acceleration pedals.
Google, which could test its autonomous car outside of California, without the pedals and steering wheel, has decided to add these features to comply with the California Law and continue its tests there.
via Google will include steering wheel and pedals in its autonomous car to comply with the Law – ABC.es.
