A couple of weeks ago, Google made an unprecedented decision in Germany: as some traditional media publishers complained that Google News used their images and the first lines of their articles to include in its news section, the search giant decided to withdraw this information. Instead, and for the newspapers that had protested, they began to show only the linked headlines.
Now, just a couple of weeks later, these publishers have given in and signed a free assignment of rights so that Google can use the summary and the thumbnail image, as it did before they sued the search engine itself.
