The activity took place in the Seismic Classroom “Madeleilis Guzmán” of Funvisis and had the participation of students from the seventh and ninth semester of the Geography school, who will carry out their community service hours under the coordination of Funvisis and the UCV.

With the aim of promoting Seismic Culture and mitigating the damage that an earthquake may cause, the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis), an entity attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for University Education, Science and Technology (Mppeuct), held the workshop “The Seismic Threat within the practical and dynamic theoretical perspective”, addressed to higher education students from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).

The activity took place in the Seismic Classroom “Madeleilis Guzmán” of Funvisis and had the participation of students from the seventh and ninth semester of the Geography school, who will carry out their community service hours under the coordination of Funvisis and the UCV.

The Funvisis Seismic Prevention instructor, Ángel Betancourt, was in charge of training the students, with the fundamental objective of disseminating the knowledge acquired to organized communities and schools.

In this regard, Betancourt highlighted the work that several UCV students have been doing in different schools “this activity is intended for the directives of the educational establishments, with the support of community service students, to form their school emergency plan and brigadistas ”.

In this sense, Eliécer Fajardo, a student in the seventh semester of the Geography school, said “it is important to know how we should act in the event of an earthquake, the school where we are going to be working is the La Salle School of Tienda Honda, located in the center of Caracas, there we will be imparting everything we learned in this workshop, so that the school emergency plan in case of earthquakes is compiled.

For her part, Elianny Arreaga, a UCV student, indicated that her community work will be focused on risk mitigation, for which she will give Seismic Prevention workshops to students of the Francisco de Miranda Generalissimo Militarized Educational Unit.

Through the “Madeleilis Guzmán” Seismic Classroom educational program, Funvisis reiterates its commitment to socialize knowledge, to provide citizens with pertinent information on what to do in the event of an earthquake.
