Ford’s flagship truck debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show with a new engine and a deluxe version, the Explorer Platinum, fully equipped but at an unprecedented price for this vehicle: $ 50,000, no less.
The new Explorer 2016 will begin to be sold in the middle of next year and only then will the prices of the Limited and Sport models be revealed, although they will be around the current ones, as anticipated by representatives of the American automotive giant.
“The Explorer is in the DNA of every Ford sport utility vehicle,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s chief executive officer. He also added that this model has meant huge profits for Ford since its appearance on the market in 1990.
Since then, seven million units of the Explorer have been sold, which continues to sell significantly, even as smaller trucks have progressively taken over the market.
The Platinum model, now on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show, comes with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, 20-inch diameter wheels, LED lights and a platinum logo that differs from Ford’s classic blue logo.
