A survey in the United States revealed that 73% of the Internet user population over 18 uses at least one social network. Facebook is the preferred social network, used by 71% of adults online.
However, other platforms such as Pinterest, LinkedIn and Twitter are advancing and an increasing number of people use multiple social networks. Pew found that 42% of Internet users use two or more of the five most popular social networks.
Facebook users totaled 71% compared to 67% of all adults who used the internet last year. A large part of Facebook’s growth occurs among older Americans. 45% of internet users over 65 use Facebook, 35% more than at the end of 2012.
LinkedIn is used by 22%, compared to 20% the previous year. Pinterest usage increased dramatically to 21%, up from 15% a year ago. 18% of users use Twitter, compared to 16% last year. Instagram jumped to 17% from 13% last year, according to the survey.
