DirecTV announced that it will use the spectrum granted by Conatel in Venezuela, which allows the deployment of 4G LTE technology, to offer fixed Internet in the initial stage.
This was confirmed to the press by Saulo Useche, VP of finance at DirecTV Venezuela, who explained that the satellite television company requires the installation of cells at 2.5 GHz nationwide in order to use the 40 Mhz of spectrum awarded.
This year, the concessions of spectrum frequencies for the deployment of LTE were granted to Movilnet-Cantv, Telefónica de Venezuela and DirecTV. The latter is working on the installation of LTE stations nationwide for which it has already communicated its investment plan. However, Useche said “it is still premature to discuss the size of the investment or the details of the services,” as each step “requires the approval of the regulator.”
