We often respond immediately and thoughtlessly to emails with disastrous consequences. It is convenient to wait before sending a response, or even never respond at all.
In today’s information society, we have become used to responding immediately to emails that arrive in our inbox, and in the same way, to expecting an instant response to our letters. But unlike verbal communication, emails can put us in a good bind in the worst case, or in a mess in which we will then have to waste a lot of energy in the best of scenarios. It seems clear that in this situation, the wisest thing to do is to wait before hitting “send”, but are we capable of it?
