Costa Rica ranked twelfth among the 55 countries evaluated by the Climascope, with a score of 1.45 and performed well among its Latin American peers, ranking sixth, above much larger economies such as Colombia, Argentina and Venezuela. .
With the largest installed generation capacity in Central America –2.7GW–, Costa Rica has attracted US $ 1.4 billion in new clean energy investments since 2006 not related to large hydroelectric plants. Those funds directly translated into new commissioned capacity in the country, with a total of 856MW of renewable energy production plants in operation at the end of 2013.
