No one would have thought of gravity as a victim of climate change.
But that is exactly what the European Space Agency discovered and published in a report on Friday, examining the loss of ice in West Antarctica between 2009 and 2012. To everyone’s surprise, the retreat of thousands of tons of ice took a toll. impact on gravity.
This means that climate change is causing serious havoc in Antarctica, some measurements already point to a change that is “impossible to stop” in western Antarctica and that would imply a rise of 127 cm in sea level by the end of the century.
We are clarifying, on the other hand, that you will not be able to fly the next time you spend a vacation in Antarctica, because gravity on Earth is not constant.
