The operation is very simple: the lamp picks up the audio of people talking around it and, using any open Wi-Fi network in its range, uploads the files to the Mechanical Turk platform. There, users are offered a small sum of money to transcribe the audio (come on, the process is not automated yet) and, later, the phrases are published in @conversnitch so that anyone on Twitter can listen to them.
And where have they tried using Conversnitch? In the presentation video, which we leave you next, we see how they install it in a McDonalds without anyone in the restaurant knowing. Also in offices, in a park, in a library, in a room … being like a light bulb, it is easy to install it in almost any place where there is a lamp or a socket.
via Watch out for that lamp: it could be listening to your conversation and posting it on Twitter.
