The Swiss mobile operator Swisscom relies on high-security NFC-compatible SIM cards from Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) to offer its customers the ability to pay with “Tapit” even if the phone is switched off.
Tapit is the digital wallet for smartphones used in Switzerland and the common platform for all mobile phone operators in the country. The smartphone application allows you to pay, collect loyalty points and open doors using NFC technology. The G&D SIM card is the central security element in which sensitive data, such as digital payment cards or employee cards for building access, are securely stored.
Listen to the interview with Mayela Martínez from Swisscom: Swisscom mobile phone customers can use Tapit from the beginning of July in all establishments that already accept contactless payment. More than 50,000 stores already offer this service in Switzerland, including Coop and Migros branches, and the number continues to grow. In the future, Swiss mobile phone customers will also be able to manage their loyalty cards via the digital wallet. At the moment, the Tapit payment function is compatible with Cornèrcard Visa payment cards. Other card issuers will be added soon, such as the Aduno Gruppe / Viseca group with MasterCard cards.
The NFC-compatible SIM cards from the SkySIM CX range that G&D supplies to Swisscom meet the specific security requirements required for classic payment, ticketing and identification applications. The SIM card is approved by EMVCo, American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Several different NFC applications can be run securely on the SIM card simultaneously. The SkySIM-CX range of cards is also compatible with the MIFARE, CIPURSE and Calypso public transport applications, and can therefore also be used as a ticket for short-distance public transport. SIM cards are available in 2FF, micro-SIM, nano-SIM and triple-SIM formats, and are compatible with 2G, 3G and LTE networks.
