Nomophobia is the irrational fear of being without a mobile phone. The term comes from the Anglicism “nomophobia” (“no-mobile-phone-phobia”). The dependence on the electronic device generates an unfounded feeling of isolation in the user when he cannot have it, either because he has left it forgotten at home, or because his battery has run out or he is out of coverage.
It is a disorder that suffers, without knowing it, at least half of the population. When we run out of battery after spending the whole day away from home, and a feeling of anxiety invades us and makes us want intensely for the moment when we plug the mobile phone back into the power, we are talking about a clear case of nomophobia. If we are in despair when we realize halfway through work that we have forgotten our cell phone in the hall and that in the course of that scarce half an hour an immeasurable number of people have been able to contact us, we also talk about this novel disease, so far not declared.
