Apple released new technical specifications in its Made for iPhone ‘Made for iPhone’ developer program that will allow manufacturers to build hearing aids that do not use the 3.5mm plug but the Lightning port.
Headphones that are made to use the Lightning port could supposedly receive a 48kHz stereo digital signal, and they might have a built-in microphone because they would also be capable of sending a 48kHz monaural digital signal. In addition, they could send a series of signals to an Apple device such as controlling music playback or launching applications.
