The highly anticipated EMUI 10 (Android 10) update that was going to land in Q1 2020, for the Huawei P20 Lite and Honor 9 Lite will never arrive. Therefore, both phones will remain locked on Android 9.0, even if they were released less than 2 years ago.
It might have been understandable, if not acceptable, if both models were entry-level, but that’s not the case. Huawei, which had promoted the P20 Lite and Honor 9 Lite as mid-range in 2018, decided to abandon attempts to bring you the latest version of Android, even if they are not technically banned by Google. In a publication published by Huawei’s official Twitter account in India, the Chinese brand explains it like this:
“We regret to inform you that EMUI 10.0 / Android 10 will not be available for your device due to hardware limitations. It requires higher hardware specifications to ensure optimal performance.
According to Huawei, these are technical limitations that mean that Android 10 can never be implemented on the two models in question. This will undoubtedly create great disappointment among the owners of the two devices, especially since Huawei had promised them the update no later than March 2020.
This cancellation comes a few days after the pause of the rollout of the same update on the Honor 20 and View 20 for obscure reasons, while promising to continue to do so from mid-February 2020. This, therefore, adds to another hiatus from the arrival of Android 10 (EMUI 10) in two other high-end devices that are Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro.
