The 68-year-old man, a resident of the state of Minnesota in the United States, began to lose his vision 20 years ago due to a severe case of retinitis pigmentosa, a disease that degeneratively affects the part of the eye that is sensitive to light. Ten years later, he was completely blind, but not due to a case of traditional blindness, he can only see very bright light.
Dr. Raymond Iezzi, a researcher and ophthalmologist, was actually treating Zderad’s grandson who is currently beginning to suffer from his same degenerative disease. When he had the opportunity to treat grandfather, the result has been the emotional reunion of a family, who with tears and hugs celebrates how this wonderful advance in medicine is helping Zderad to see again.
