Twitter informed the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that almost 8.5% of its active user accounts do not have a real user behind them, but rather a robot, which publishes updates automatically without human participation, according to CNET.
These accounts, which are controlled by third-party applications, represent 23 million of the 271 million active accounts that Twitter has in total, according to data collected by the microblogging site in the three months prior to June 30.
The revelation of Twitter is explained by the attempt to explain what is and is not real on the social network and how people access your site.
