Last September Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 4, the first smartwatch capable of doing an electrocardiogram for now only in the United States but it has already saved a life. The Apple Watch Series 4 ECG has just been activated with the latest watchOS update for US users. This technology helps keep problems such as atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm that can lead to stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related problems under control.
A few days ago, a user on Reddit reported that the ECG on his Apple Watch Series 4 was activated by detecting atrial fibrillation and alerted him to an irregular heart rhythm and automatically opened the ECG application. In doing so, the electrocardiogram indicated that it was indeed atrial fibrillation. Obviously, the person in question went to the emergency room to check what was happening. There, he says, a doctor told him that “he should buy Apple shares, because it probably saved his life.” This person, who has already seen a cardiologist, has indeed been able to confirm the “previous diagnosis” made by the Apple Watch Series 4.
